We’ve all seen it far too many times before. A Facebook user broadcasts their single violent act - or even all out multiple incident rampage - impacting one or many more victims. As of 2017, Fortune reports there have been nearly 50 acts of violence broadcast on Facebook - through a service known as Facebook Live. These brutal acts include shootings, child abuse, murders and torture.
We can now add yet another deadly Internet show - the recent shootings in Memphis, Tennessee which left four dead and three injured.
Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg - years ago - said it would hire thousands of human employees (instead of merely utilizing AI bots) to monitor their live broadcast option to prevent the streaming of crimes. How’s that working out for all of us? The Gift Of Fear a book by Gavin de Becker warns of the media covering of violent criminals - live streaming such as Facebook Live can be viewed as an incentive to these criminals to broadcast their heinous acts to the world.
