Scary movies should be cheap movies. Yes, I said cheap. It’s simply a well worn and often proven fact. Big budget scares? Superstar slashes? No thanks.
To be clear - I don’t mean cheap looking. Nor do I mean offering up cheaply made, acted, produced or directed flicks. Quality doesn’t have to mean busting a big budget. And there are more than a few big budget horror films which simply flop.
Horror flicks immerse us in a world to scare us. That freaky little world should have little polish. The best ones always maintain minimal production values. Or, if that filmmaker does have a big budget, the money should never drown out the fright factor.
No big bucks? No A-List stars? No problem. C’mon my cheap cheeky children. Let’s talk low budget fright and how it’s usually a far more effective cinematic nightmare.
