'The Mephisto Waltz' - A 1971 Cerebral Shocker

This 1971 horror film stars Alan Alda and Jacqueline Bisset and plays with the powers of the occult and Satanism. The movie trades in violence and gore for a far more cerebral and disturbing vibe.

Can you hear the music? It is calling to you now. Will you dare to dance The Mephisto Waltz?

This old school cinematic shocker predates both The Exorcist and The Omen. It is one of the early examples of the 1970’s intense love affair with the occult and a scary depiction of the deadly dangers of Satanism. It seemed the devil could be found around every corner during that transformational decade.

This one has always been a memorable highlight for me as an example of more cerebral movie thrills and chills. Starring Alan Alda and Jacqueline Bisset, the story dives headfirst into the notion of our human soul and how just maybe, with the right ritual magic, one can play fast and loose with where our spirits go when we leave the earthly realm. C’mon my delightful demons, grab some salty and sweet Satanic snacks and cozy up to our chat on some truly devilish delights.
