Answer the phone!!
You’ll undoubtedly be screaming it as much as I screamed while watching The Black Phone. This highly engaging thriller starring Ethan Hawke (Sinister) will have you cheering on our hero as he talks to his other worldly protectors on a big, old school rotary telephone. Yep, no cell phones here. This is 1978. If you lived it - as I did - you’ll find how perfectly recreated the era and vibe of the time is in the film.
Based on a short story written by Joe Hill - Stephen King’s son - the story centers on Finney, a boy with a horrible home life. His mother is deceased and his alcoholic father abuses hims and his younger sister. To only add to the daily stress, Finney is the target of a gang of merciless bullies. And to add even more stress to the whole town, a child kidnapper - called The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) - is abducting children on a regular basis.
C’mon my howling horror hounds. Let’s talk thrillers, ghosts, rotary phones, the 1970s and ever changing fright masks, as we discuss Ethan Hawke starring in this uniquely powerful movie, The Black Phone.
