'Promising Young Woman' - A Haunting Oscar Winning Crime Thriller

Carey Mulligan is a woman tortured by a friend's suicide who decides the path to justice is to set traps for those responsible for her friend's tragic death and her own shattered life.

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing.

In writer/director Emerald Fennel’s unforgettable crime thriller, Promising Young Women, we grapple with the notion of how good a person can be (or if they’re even good at all) if they simply allow something bad to happen when they have the power to change the outcome or at least make a difference. British filmmaker Fennel won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and her movie snagged nominations for Mulligan as Best Actress, and also for Film Editing and Best Director.

With shades of the classic Charles Bronson starring Death Wish mixed in with Jodi Foster’s The Accused, and also Foster’s 2007 thriller, The Brave One, the film deftly provokes us to meditate over how unresolved psychological trauma can alter and ultimately shatter many intertwined lives.

So, what price justice mixed in with more than a little shocking vengeance? Promising Young Woman is a thought provoking thriller and isn’t your standard revenge tale. You’ll be caught off guard often and thinking about this provocative story for a long time.
