Horror Sounds: A Scary Movie Is Also Heard

Music and Sound FX are vital in any good film production, but are especially important to enhance a great horror movie to scare us silly.

Listen. Did you hear that?

Hearing a scary thing in a horror film is just as common and essential as seeing something spooky. In fact, if it wasn’t for all the great sound FX and disturbing music playing, many horror movies would be almost boring.

Think of your favorite scary flicks. How about the music in director Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece, Psycho. Recall the shower scene, but focus primarily on the sounds, not on doomed thief Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) being attacked in the shower. This is the awesome unsettling power of sound.

Voices Carry In Horror Movies

Horror movies, perhaps more than any other film genre, try their very best to viscerally connect with their audience. They must get right down under our skin visually, but every good scare we see must be equally balanced by what we hear. C’mon let’s talk listening to the horror flicks we love and let’s savor the mind blowing scare sounds of horror films.
