Cry, oh my wailing banshee! Gloom, doom and death approaches this Gaelic community. Beware!
Let’s face it, compared to many supernatural creatures, Banshees are real jerks.
And so The Banshees of Inisherin celebrate that disturbing Irish myth with complete and over indulgent relish. Starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason, and directed by Martin McDonagh, this Irish black, tragicomedy is wowing global audiences, snagging awards - including nine Oscar nominations - and making the tops of the best of movie lists for 2022.
This unique little movie offers up a simple plot, but it’s definitely not simplistic. Leading men and initial best buddies, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, comfortably and convincingly inhabit their characters like the thread bare clothes their characters sport throughout. The Banshees of Inisherin lives up to its Irish legend, omen infused title, and while it’s always funny, the darker direction plays more like a thriller or even a horror movie.
