R2D2 would have been fun to watch in action in real life. This droid named TALLY simply rolled around getting in customer's ways checking inventory. It worked well, yet shoppers were annoyed by it.
There have been robots in supermarkets as long as I can remember.
First, there were electronic tills to save the checkout staff from having to perform mathematics.
Then, there were robots at the checkout hungry for me to feed them barcodes.
Now, it is hard to find a human at all.
Even as someone with a background in AI, I don't find any of this particularly encouraging. 🙁
