The Star Wars Holiday Special 1978 - My Thoughts On The Infamous Debacle
George Lucas Disowned It. Disney + Won't Add It To Streaming Content. Is It The Worst Thing Ever Broadcast On Television? Probably.
Most serious Star Wars fans know it. They whisper of its nightmarish existence like a damning curse over the collective fan base born from the dark side. More than a few have even survived actually watching it. Princess Leia’s alter ego Carrie Fisher asked George Lucas to give her a DVD of it so she could play it at parties when she wanted people to leave her house.
What could be so objectionable?
It’s the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special first broadcast in 1978 on CBS. It's a surreal experience you’ll want to forget, but never can nor will. It's so bad that creator George Lucas and Disney + completely disowned this wholly legitimate dumpster fire. Starring pretty much all of the original A New Hope cast, including, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, James Earl Jones, Anthony Daniels and Harrison Ford, along with household TV stars such as Art Carney, Bea Arthur and Harvey Korman, here are my thoughts on something so insanely bad, it may well be the very worst thing ever shown on television.

Hey Will,
While it's true that the cast of the movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope were in the Holiday Special, that movie did not appear until 1981. The movie released in 1977 is called Star Wars, and has no Episode number or secondary title. It would be more accurate, therefore, to say that the Holiday Special featured the cast of Star Wars, which was the only Star Wars-branded movie available at the time! 😁
This is pure nitpickery, of course, but I stand by this distinction. 😛
Happy Boxing Day!
Chris.
