All good things… Well, yes, my loyal Trekkies and Trekkers, believe it or not, it’s actually over. Starfleet brass has now put the grand space lady, Picard’s USS Enterprise, into space dock for all time - or so they say…
Star Trek: Picard (Patrick Stewart) streaming on Paramount Plus ended its run recently with a much heralded final Season 3 on Paramount Plus. The finale was chock full of gleeful fan service, golly gee cameos and hard boiled Easter eggs. By any critical standard, it was an unusual sendoff to say the least. Of course, franchise farewells are never easy - just ask the still besieged with flaming, fan angst producers of The Sopranos.
After fans got a generous dose of the now controversial Season 3, Star Trek The Next Generation fans became woefully divided. Why does that matter at all? Remember: Picard may be technically its own show, but nobody would be watching without the fabled 1987 show from creator Gene Roddenberry. The creative lines framing the oddly concocted spin-off show offered up in the digital sand were clearly drawn. Many Trekkies dearly loved the finale season reuniting the, up till then missing, TNG cast, yet still many more Trekkers hated it passionately.
What do you think of the legacy of Star Trek: Picard? Let's hunker down and discuss what may indeed be the true television end all for TNG’s beloved cast of cosmic characters.
