I do like Maya, but her season came with the transition to 'monster of the week' after the more thoughtful episodes of the preceding season. Something was lost at that point and never regained.
It's sad they couldn't have properly integrated Maya into the philosophical 1st season structure, thereby giving us the best of both worlds. Alas, Freddie Frieberger pushed for and got his 'action packed' thrill ride.
Designed as a Spock like, analytical character, Maya's advanced Psychon knowledge could have worked wonderfully in a more exploratory, meditative nature of a 1st series vibe.
