Try a tricorder today. Back in 1966, Star Trek gave audiences a future look into how our lives would change by using hand held computing devices. In the real world of the 1960’s, computers still took up entire rooms. When Spock (Leonard Nimoy) used his tricorder to scan for lifeforms on an alien planet, it pointed to a future for all of us to one day be using similar devices in our daily lives.
Spock’s tricorder wasn’t as sleek as today’s iPhone, iPad or Amazon Kindle, but it processed and displayed information much like our modern digital devices. And medical tech has also embraced the dedicated concept - with the XPrize device.
