It’s said The Proof Is Out There my fantastic fringe folks. We must only reach out to fully and enthusiastically embrace it. At the very least, we can do the necessary work by watching the assembled video evidence. And now with nifty new digital and A.I. technology, the video footage we have, especially the famous Patterson-Gimlin Film filmed at Bluff Creek, CA in 1967, becomes more compelling than ever.
That’s the intriguing promise of this excellent History Channel TV show, and with this comprehensive episode focused on the cryptid phenomenon and the iconic Patterson-Gimlin Film, or PGF, the dedicated time, high energy and big money isn’t wasted in probing and analyzing one of the most famous yet still controversial short films ever captured.
Released in 1967, it’s a safe bet you’ve heard of or have seen the fabled PGF at least a few times. I’ve watched it slightly more than that, and honestly I lost count at around several hundred, but despite scores of viewing, or because of them, it still fascinates me. How can a short film - lasting only 59 seconds - compel you to watch over and over? And over again. If you have to ask, then you’ve probably never seen it.
What’s most exciting is my early experience watching in the 1970’s - a truly dark, muddy, barely watchable affair - compared to today’s modern remastered, stabilized versions which thrill as a complete revelation. We’ve all seen our favored film classics magnificently restored, this, although a short subject, is no different.
After the extensive restoration, watching the PGF now is like seeing a classic film - say a Universal Monster movie from the 1930’s recorded on an over played VHS tape - now reborn in glorious high definition, brimming with clarity details you could never dream of while seeing the old, less than clear version. Is this the simple reason many back in the day, and still now, think the movie is just an elaborate hoax? The hardcore skeptics need to watch this.
The Proof Is Out There host, Tony Harris, taps a respected team of experts, including Idaho University Professor Dr. Jeff Meldrum, Hollywood FX wizard Bill Munns and computer guru Isaac Tian to finally offer up fresh angles and thoughts on the now definitive Bigfoot film version shot by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. Bigfoot Revealed is a special, eye opening double length powerful episode you simply can’t afford to miss.
