Batman is one super fit mutha! Shut your mouth!
For decades, we’ve watched our caped Gotham crusader act as solitary protector fighting the good fight in a skintight costume which shows every inch of his carefully sculpted physique. The man doesn’t have time for slowing down, and any extra flab on his Olympic level athlete body could slow him down for just a mere second - enough time to lose a fight or prevent him from saving the life of an innocent.
Batman can’t overeat or become an overindulgent gourmet snacker. Bruce Wayne, if he is a foodie, certainly hides it well.
So, we all know that Bruce Wayne is only a normal human being. True, he’s a powerful billionaire with those wonderful toys, but he doesn’t have nifty abilities like his Justice League teammates such as Superman or Flash or Wonder Woman. What if he gave up the battle of the bulge? What if the always rock hard Bats got soft and started hitting the buffet and the junk food - hard?
DC comics and especially Batman fans are excited by next month’s feature film opening with star Robert Pattinson borrowing the guy from Gotham’s cape. The Batman promises to be one hell of a big box office smash with true believers across the globe.
Superhero fans love variety in all fun and narrative ways. But is there enough body shape variety in our stories and characters we love so much? The vast comic book universe - both Marvel and DC - are sorely lacking chubby or downright fat superheroes. Why no chubby build in superheroes we love? Is it so simple as they’re unfit so they can’t be portrayed as a super powered character? Bad role models for kids who may emulate them to excess? Or is it much more? C’mon. Let’s talk about Batman and the clear lack of big super powered folk in comics.
