'Star Wars' Clone 'Battle Beyond The Stars' Is So Much More Than A Rip-Off
Roger Corman Produced This Truly Fantastic 1980 Space Opera With Often Better FX & Characters Than George Lucas Gave Us With Episode IV: A New Hope
You see, there is only one Nestor, one consciousness. As you might imagine, this has proven very lonely, very dull. We must avoid becoming... we believe you’ve a phrase for it... "bored to death." - Nestor 1 - Battle Beyond The Stars
Sci-fi fans know all too well classic Star Wars has clones hailing from many distant galaxies. And despite trying our geeky best to have fun with them, most of em simply suck. Released in 1980, Battle Beyond The Stars produced by Roger Corman, doesn't.
This 1980 space opera is a rip-roaring sci-fi ride. Sure, it's ultimately a clone or even a rip-off of George Lucas crafted Star Wars, but it's actually inspired by two other films; The Magnificent Seven and Seven Samurai. Starring Richard Thomas, Sybil Danning, George Peppard, Robert Vaughn and many other familiar faces fleshing out the most fascinating lifeforms this side of the universe.
If you like classic, retro science fiction, splashed up on the broad canvas of space opera, there's much to like here. You’ll soon find yourself warping off in hyperspace to a galaxy far, far away, only this time hanging out with very different characters.
