Will Robinson Or Wesley Crusher? Wesley Or Will? Pick your sci-fi whiz kid, please, but be careful…
Danger, Will Robinson!
Here is a badly kept science fiction fueled, pop culture secret. Star Trek's Wesley Crusher isn't well liked. You could say he's even hated by many Star Trek fans, Trekkies or Trekkers. Conversely, Will Robinson of Lost In Space fame, isn't really hated or even disliked by the sci-fi fandom.
Weighing the science fiction goodness variables for both, it’s a bit of a toss-up. Both characters appear quite similar. They both behave as precocious, even brilliant kids. They both save the day often in their respective shows. They both are super genius level whiz kids. So then, why is Wesley (Wil Wheaton) hated so much, yet Will isn't? In fact, he’s even mostly liked by LIS fans.
Let's talk Wesley Crusher, the kid genius from Star Trek: The Next Generation compared to Will Robinson (Bill Mumy) the whiz kid who fixes most any tech gadget on Lost In Space, and why there's such a difference in general fan admiration and dislike between the two popular sci-fi icons.
