Fans, aka Trekkies or Trekkers, dearly love Gene Roddenberry's engaging sci-fi creation. Born in 1966, and first broadcast on NBC, the now iconic series warped into massive global stardom, spinning off sequel series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. Animated shows, novels, video games, feature films and all manner of other worldly merchandise followed.

But the ultimate question remains. We can ask: What is it about Star Trek?

Here are my Top Five Reasons why I love this celebrated, classic science fiction entertainment franchise. Star Trek is reborn on Paramount + and now a new generation joins legacy fans as they stream new space based adventures in Strange New Worlds, Discovery, Picard and the forthcoming Starfleet Academy, starring Holly Hunter, Robert Picardo and Paul Giamatti.
