My Star Trek DS9 Episode 'Prophet Motive' Was Politically Based
When I Wrote My Deep Space Nine Episode I Had Some High Profile Political Players In Mind For My Story
Star Trek deals in awe inspiring science fiction, action packed space exploration and even familiar, Earth bound politics. The 2nd spin-off which debuted in 1993 was a perfect example of a sci-fi show using an intense political backdrop. In fact, with Deep Space Nine, the political stakes were never higher nor more cosmic cool born of Gene Roddenberry's original series legacy.
When I wrote my script for the Next Generation spin-off, which became the episode, 'Prophet Motive', I used American domestic politics as a backdrop and to help flesh out my characters. Politicians such as then sitting President Bill Clinton and business man turned politician Ross Perot were employed in my early creative script development. Let's talk profiteering turned charitable Ferengi, Deep Space Nine, the enigmatic Prophets and politics.
