Mark Hamill Was Badly Injured In 1977 Before 'Star Wars: A New Hope' Release
Was 'The Empire Strikes Back' Wampa Attack Scene Added To The Script After Mark Hamill Got Into A Face Scarring Car Accident?
Star Wars: A New Hope dropped in 1977. The sci-fi space opera juggernaut gave the science fiction loving world a young, naive Luke Skywalker, the wannabe Jedi and son to a certain Dark Lord of The Sith. Played by actor Mark Hamill, he was joined in the fun sci-fi adventure along with Han Solo, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi and that darkside devotee, Lord Darth Vader, who are now all certified pop culture legends.
What many fans don't realize is that before the George Lucas rousing tale was released into movie theaters, Hamill got into a bad car accident and suffered serious head injuries. He needed facial reconstructive surgery and although expertly performed, he never looked quite the same as he did in A New Hope.
Let's all ignite our lightsabers to talk Star Wars, Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker and the Planet Hoth Wampa scene from The Empire Strikes Back, which some fans feel was created and added to the screenplay as a clever cover up to explain Hamill's now real life facial scars.

Hi Will,
Your regular pedantic reminder that Star Wars: A New Hope was not released until April 1981. He was badly injured before the release of Star Wars. 😝
