James Gunn Turns His 'Superman' 2025 Into 'Brightburn' A Horror Movie
The New Superman Movie From James Gunn's DCU Has A Lot In Common With A 2019 Horror Movie He Produced And His Brothers Wrote.
Superman is a bright, generally optimistic modern comic book fable, right? Truth, Justice and The American Way. What if it was a dark, frightening horror story? This is what the world was given in 2019 with the opening of the superhero horror film, Brightburn, from producer James Gunn.
Now, director Gunn essentially turns his Superman 2025 movie into an inspired version of the horror movie he produced. The superhero fright flick, Brightburn, was written by his two brothers - Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn. It tells a dark, scary tale of an alien boy crash landing on Earth with super powers who’s adopted by an all American farming couple. Sound familiar? Instead of helping mankind, this little tyke starts to become dangerously violent, and even starts killing people. In James Gunn's new Superman, the parallels between Kal-El's re-imagined tyrannical Kryptonian parents and the violent, rampaging alien directives seen in Brightburn are more than crystal clear.
