How JJ Abrams Killed Star Trek And Star Wars
Director JJ Abrams Was Given Control Of Both Star Trek And Star Wars, Since ThenThe Sci-Fi Franchises Have Never Been The Same
Star Trek and Star Wars. The two beloved, iconic science fiction franchises have warped about the galaxy for decades to the delight of millions of loyal fans.
The Starship USS Enterprise, commanded by Captain Kirk with Vulcan first officer Spock at his side, came first on NBC television in 1966, created by Gene Roddenberry. Hit feature films followed. In 1977, George Lucas crafted the saga of a galaxy far, far away, giving us Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Darth Vader. More movies and TV shows followed for both sci-fi vehicles and fans were mostly pretty happy.
And then... JJ Abrams happened...
Abrams as writer/producer/director took over feature film chores for Star Trek in 2009. Six years later in 2015, Abrams gave the world, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Abrams then directed Star Trek: Into Darkness in 2013. Finally, he'd write and direct The Rise Of Skywalker 2019. If there is one Hollywood creative to properly blame or credit for the current state of Star Trek and Star Wars, it is undeniably JJ Abrams.

Aye, I cannot disagree. My decision to ditch Star Wars branded media directly followed from the decision to hire JJ Abrams for the Disney Star Wars movies after his Star Trek had so blatantly mauled its source materials. While I appreciate that media corporations do not care about faithful adaptation, consistency, or continuity, when they neglect these concerns it always comes back to bite them on the ass sooner or later.
However, it has to be acknowledged that by milking the space cow so heavily with a seemingly endless run of Star Wars-branded movies, Disney and post-Lucas Lucasfilm could have nobbled the franchise without Abram's help.
Stay wonderful!
Chris.
