Star Wars has been a pop culture constant since 1977. It remains an enormously popular global sci-fi franchise, alongside heavyweights such as Star Trek, Marvel and DC. Its characters are legendary, its visuals instantly recognizable as cosmic iconic.
Still, hardcore fans can often be demanding, and Luke Skywalker’s far off galactic saga isn’t immune from criticism. After Disney purchased the IP from creator George Lucas, some fans feel the new movies may be more than wanting.
Where can one find unity in the Force?
Despite the infighting among SW factions, there’s one film which unites nearly all fans. One for which they can universally despise in unison. In 1978, we were mistreated to the Star Wars Holiday Special. Broadcast on CBS only once, it's become one of the most infamously hated films in entertainment history. Although George Lucas disowns it and has said his company had little to do with its creation, that’s not necessarily the case. George, there’s something more, isn’t there?
