Porkins. Lt. Eckhardt. You know both of them. You’ve seen both of them. You may have even watched them many times. Two characters featured in two of the most famous epic blockbuster movies ever: Star Wars and Batman.

Both are fan favorites, and today, they are near iconic film characters. Fans know and love these guys as much as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader or Bruce Wayne. Both played by the hard working and gifted character actor, William Hootkins.

Everybody knows the names of the big silver screen stars. They get the big bucks, the adoring exposure (over exposure) and gleaming, sparkling accolades. Supporting players such as Mr. Hootkins needs to stand out more, arguably, they need to do more, and this American dramatic performer always did it by fleshing out so many beloved roles.

William Hootkins proves his impressive theatrical versatility in blockbuster films, by employing his chameleon like ability to fully morph into a new, unrecognizable character. Without the creative constraints or titanic pressures of being a leading man, or lead main actor, supporting players such as Hootkins can offer up some truly special and unforgettable moments on film.

C’mon, let’s all holler now and hoot for William Hootkins. Let’s talk an incredibly heroic George Lucas crafted Jek Tono Porkins, the deadly corrupt Lt. Eckhardt from Batman director Tim Burton’s Gothic Gotham, the doom and gloom of Star Wars planet destroying Deathstar, while standing toe to toe with thespian powerhouse Jack Nicholson.
