Captain Picard's Lionfish Livingston on Star Trek: The Next Generation
Captain Picard may have relished keeping his exotic lionfish, Livingston, in his Ready Room on the Enterprise 1701-D. In real life, however, Patrick Stewart objected to the fish being there.
Aquariums maintained on exploratory spaceships in our far flung future? Renowned, respected Captains with fish for his visitors to see? On Starfleet vessels, apparently so. Star Trek: The Next Generation fans recall Captain Picard's lionfish, Livingston, swimming in an aquarium proudly displayed in Jean-Luc Picard’s Bridge Ready Room.
Although never figuring importantly in a TNG tale, save as a potential salty snack to the devolved Cmdr Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) in the wild episode, Genesis, series fans were mostly fond of the fish.
However, Picard’s alter ego, Patrick Stewart, didn't exactly love the aquatic cast member being showcased in his official Enterprise office.
